Fire Prevention Week

This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Don’t Wait – Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years,” represents the final year of our three-year effort to educate the public about basic but essential elements of smoke alarm safety.

Why focus on smoke alarms three years in a row? Because NFPA’s survey data shows that the public has many misconceptions about smoke alarms, which may put them at increased risk in the event of a home fire. For example, only a small percentage of people know how old their smoke alarms are, or how often they need to be replaced.

As a result of those and related findings, we’re addressing smoke alarm replacement this year with a focus on these key messages:

"I really appreciate the service I received from all the Okanagan Restoration team, from the Project Manager, along the line to the girls who cleaned up today. I was notified ahead of time when the workers were coming, either by the office or the person himself. I knew who was coming and what their job was. I was often asked for my opinion as the project progressed. When someone arrived for the first time, they would take the time to introduce themselves and remind me of their job. My biggest concern was my dogs, who have no traffic sense if they escaped from the yard. All the workers were careful to close the gate after they came in or left and I didn't have to worry about the dogs getting out. Actually, one day one of them preferred the company of one of the workers. When I called her to go for a walk, she was busy begging for pieces of his doughnut. Although the whole (double) septic back up was a nightmare, Okanagan Restoration did their best to make my life a little easier. I love the final result. Sincerely, "
